Anandapura :- It was the first city to be founded in 10th century by Emperor Sri Rajaditya, after whom this area was named. Later it was ruled by Hoysala dynasty and Vijaynagar empire. The name Bangalore comes from Kannada words bangaru and lagaru which means “city of bells”. The foundation of Bangalore was laid down by Emperor Sri Rajaditya, one of the greatest emperors in Indian history. He built many temples including the much renowned Temple of Basaveshwara at Chitralekha Kshetra, as well as a magnificent city that he named Bangalore. As the capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire, it was one of the richest cities in medieval India. The city was also a prominent center for trade. As a result of its importance, it was declared as a district headquarters in 1847.
